Born in 1990, China.
Currently live and work in Hong Kong.
YY Chan, Fannie is a self-taught artist who began her artist journey in 2024. After completing her Bachelor degree in Business Management, she worked as a public relations art specialist in Hong Kong, a city renowned for its rich cultural diversity and vibrant art scene. The positive response she received from her career posting her passion in art.
Her introduction to the world of art was facilitated by her family, particularly her grandfather, who was a painter during the Chinese Cultural Revolution. Growing up and surrounded by numerous socialist posters, she learned that art should convey messages to the community.
Since she suffered from mild ADHD, she turned to paint as a means of alleviating her symptoms. She later pursues a career as an artist, and re-engage to the art scene.
Through her practise, YY Chan aims to manifest her self development, and explore subjects that connecting to her life. In navigating the challenges of ADHD, she distills images into forms, shapes and lines with distinct visual and conceptual perspective, characterized by bright and vibrant color.
Drawing inspiration from various self-taught artists, like Van Gogh, Matthew Wong. YY Chan creates dynamic, colourful and expressive artworks that encompass a range of subjects, from portrait to landscape and beyond. Her artistic journey is marked by continuous process of exploration and experimentation, guided by her passion and unique neurodiversity.
Creating concept
SInce YY worked as PR specialist, she always connect with a lot of people with diverse culture, nationality and background. She believed that environment and humanity are inter-related. Hong Kong is a exciting, dynamics and densely populated city with people from diverse cultures. Its bustling economic activity strives us to life, which transform it to be a great discussion and debate on humanity and reality. And it is also a huge challenge to humans.
With advance internet and AI, we barely distinguish the reality and virtual. Most people's behavior are performed to present standard image in the eyes of others, rather than their true selves, just like living in a virtual illusion.
